THE SUSTAINABLE FOOD FORUM
WASTE NOT, WANT LESS

Globally, the staff restaurant industry throws away 22,000 tonnes of food each year. Taken across the whole of the Food Service industry that goes up to 920,000 tonnes; that’s the same weight as 72,000 double decker buses.

At MADE at Jaguar Land Rover, we’re determined to do whatever we can to reduce the level of waste, so that we offer a more sustainable service and better value.

ISS Food and Hospitality – the company behind your MADE at Jaguar Land Rover food service – is fighting against waste using the ‘Wise Up On Waste Food’ waste monitoring tool.

We use this tool across all of our sites to monitor food waste and identify where it’s most prevalent, what the root cause is and how to tackle it directly.

11 TONNES LESS WASTE

Having monitored food waste across the UK for six months now, we have reduced our waste by over 11 tonnes. This is achieved by monitoring waste food in all its guises:

  • Unsold produce and food that comes back to us from our service areas
  • Leftovers returned on plates from meetings
  • Waste produced when making our fresh food

We then learn lessons and make suitable changes to quantities and methods to ensure waste is reduced in the future.

WHAT CAN YOU DO? Globally 870 million people are undernourished. Deforestation to make space for food production areas is damaging the earth’s natural habitats. This is directly impacted by wasteful use of food. We are doing our best to reduce our waste wherever possible whilst you are eating work.
